Pathogens are even on the outside of chicken packaging…

Even the packaging could be covered in Campylobacter.

Even the packaging could be covered in Campylobacter.

280,000 cases of food poisoning related to Campylobacter are reported each year and the real number could be twice this.

“A report this week is expected to confirm that campylobacter, a major cause of food poisoning, is present on the external packaging of thousands of fresh whole chickens sold in Britain each day.

The Food Standards Agency said the bacteria grew in the guts of chickens but was being transferred to the outside of plastic put around birds during processing.”

This news item was published in the Telegraph – you can read more here.

VLA response:
They forget to mention that actually this poisoning can be fatal and over 100 people die in the UK each year from it.

Recent exposes on the chicken processing factories show exactly why the situation is so bad – chicken guts are left piled high all over the place and conditions are completely unsanitary.
And with a reduction in the number of FSA inspectors happening, the situation is only going to get worse…
Time to quit eating chicken?

Online comment:
hmmm, so eat loads of processed and unnatural foods to get the proteins and fats our bodies need, is better in your opinion than washing your hands and cooking meat thoroughly. BTW, we have 65m people in the UK and 100% of them will die due to a reason at some point, so 100 linked to food poisoning is trivial.

VLA response:
‘processed and unnatural foods to get the proteins and fats our bodies need…’ What inaccurate info are you basing this comment on?! Humans can get all of the nutrients they need from plant-based natural foods – minus all of the health damaging consequences of eating animal products. Millions of healthy vegans are living proof of it.
And we doubt that those 100 people or their relatives/loved ones found it ‘trivial’…
These deaths are completely unnecessary – which makes them even more tragic and your comment very unpleasant.

Online comment:
Is it still considered to be meat eating if one boils and consumes a vegan!

VLA response
Technically, yes.
We certainly would be healthier to eat, providing leaner muscle and not full of hormones, chemicals, toxins, saturated fats and drugs found in most animal products…
